In this modern era, effective speech enhancement is the foremost need as almost every device from tiny to large incorporate speech functions in one or the other way. It is essential part for numerous applications such as speech recognition, speech translation, speech verification and many more, because speech related applications are incomplete without enhancing the speech quality and intelligibility. Computer Aided Diagnosis systems based on speech are also becoming prevalent. Apart from this, communication is the essence area where degradation in speech cannot be afforded. Thus, there is need of efficient algorithms which reduces or eliminates the effect of various noise sources. In this paper, review of various speech enhancement algorithms has been carried out in a comprehensive manner.
